FIFTH ANNIVERSARY EDITION
Issue No. 16, Summer 2009
Raving Dove's mission is to share thought-provoking poetry and prose that champions human rights and social justice, and opposes physical and psychological violence in all its forms, including war, discrimination against sexual orientation, and every shade of bigotry.
Published online quarterly, Raving Dove showcases original poetry, creative nonfiction, and short fiction. See our
submission guidelines for complete details.
With this edition we have reached our five-year milestone. Many endeavors are measured by this success. Though we are proud of the writing we have consistently shared with the world, in a
perfect world there would be no need for a journal that decries violence.
And so we carry on.
We'd like to express our deepest appreciation to all the poets and writers who gave so generously of their time and talents these past five years. This undertaking would not have been possible without their belief in our mission and their kind words of support.
Our 5th anniversary edition features the following contributors:
Louis Gallo, Ruth Goring, Brenda Hodges, Tai Dong Huai, Joanne Hedou, Paul Hellweg, R.A. Keenan, Ella Peters, Tovli Simiryan, Joan Steffens, Burgess Stanley Needle, Amy Jay Schoenwald, Diana Woodstock
On these pages our poetry takes us on a spiritual romp through North America, South America, Asia, and in someone's kitchen cabinet. Our fiction tells the story of a child in pain because of her ancestry ... and a young woman tormented as a result of childhood abuse. Nonfiction takes us into the life and death of a Holocaust survivor, spins a tale of remembrance on Veterans Day, and employs an unusual metaphor to describe our immigrants' plight.
Thank you for taking the time to read the offerings of our diverse and talented poets and writers. Please make sure to share this link with all who might be interested.
"Raving Dove is like an impressionist painting that you have continuously observed in order to view obscured or distant images or ideas that you may have missed at first glance. Its literary sensibility seems to be one of simple and precisely written elegance..."
