Manzanar Barracks Photo - on this page
With thanks to Sally Charette of Acton, California for providing the photograph on this page of barracks at Manzanar National Historic Site in California. Manzanar is most widely known as the site of one of ten "camps" where over 110,000 Japanese Americans were imprisoned during World War II. It's located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada in California's Owens Valley, between the towns of Lone Pine to the south and Independence to the north. Sally Charette's first photographs were published in the spring 2007 issue of the Houston Literary Review. Also a writer, she is currently at work on a novel about a photographer. Her first published short story was named "One of 100 Other Distinguished Stories" in The Best American Short Stories 1999, and she is a former PEN Emerging Voices Fellow.
