S.U.V. With Landscape
He polishes, buffs.
They were wrong. Spring spawns through hard
ground. Who’s on top now?
Highways ribboning
the land are paved with crushed rose.
Monoshaped summery
malls beckon; birds mass
by windows. As he drives, droves
blink back through mirrors.
I’ll pass all. The slow,
recurring workweek small-talks
to mounting Fridays—
Each dawn he revs his
private war, tanks past surnamed
cul-de-sacs, eats lunch
disgorged from packets,
programs data terminals.
At home, the news says:
Ripe bombers harrow the earth;
they sow the earth with pebbles of dream,
and open arms aria
to be lifted, and roses
are rising into the sky,
ushering past porous clouds
like tears from unshed tears.
