Crime Hate
Only pale moon saw the frosted glass
shatter to the asphalt that night.
Only the pop CDs were taken
while the Broadway soundtracks
were snapped in half like fortune cookies.
The white sweatshirt in the back was thrown
curbside onto a puddle of oil and water.
Gym shoes from the trunk
were taken by the two
as well as a new box of condoms.
Screeching tires left the scene
just in time.
The ground and shards of glass became wet.
The rain tried to wash away the pain and hate—
but could not erase “faggot” sprawled
on the silver car in black spray paint.
