Children of Atlas

We are walking
Up hill
Always
Up hill
Feet bleeding
Legs aching
Stomachs empty
Chests heaving
Eyes glazed
Minds numb
Always pushing
That unforgiving stone
Up the endless mountain
It is always falling back.

We start again
Walking up hill
Always
Up hill
Step after step
Hour after hour
Day after day
Pleading for some water
Begging for some food
Praying for some mercy
Always pushing
That unforgiving stone
Up the endless mountain
It is always falling back.

We are tired
Stuck in limbo
Lost tribes
In wilderness forever
Constant refugees
Taken for a ride
Looted
Lied to
Beaten
Chased across the desert
Denied admittance
Abducted
Never seen again
We’ve been had.

Always pushing
That unforgiving stone
Up the endless mountain
It is always falling back.

We have done this
All our lives
Mile after mile
Five thousand years
On the Trail of Tears
We have paid our dues
We will not start again
Up that hill
None of us
We want our cattle back
We want the bombing stopped
We have had enough
We quit.
It’s your turn now.
