Content
Raving Dove publishes original poetry, nonfiction essays, fiction, photography, and art with (universal) anti-war, anti-violence, peace-related, and human rights themes. Original means that you are the author. Fiction may be up to 3,000 words (shorter submissions are preferred), nonfiction may be up to 1,000 words, and multiple submissions are welcome. Poetry content is more important than technical perfection, and free verse is preferred over other forms. Depending on the material received, some editions may not feature all categories of writing and art. International submissions are encouraged.
Raving Dove is not a political publication. Material for or against one specific person or entity will not be considered, nor will lobbying of any kind. The pain of war and the vision of peace, in all their manifestations and in all their appearances throughout time, are our primary themes.
Publishing Rights
Poetry and Writing: One-time, first North American and Internet serial rights (no previously published work), exclusive (cannot appear elsewhere) for the duration of the edition in which the work appears (four months). All work that is accessible to the public on the Internet is considered published. This includes personal Web sites and blogs.
Photography and Art: One-time, non-exclusive Internet publishing rights (previously published and simultaneously published photography and art are acceptable).
Unless a request is made by the author or artist to remove work, we will include all work in our archives on a non-exclusive basis.
Simultaneous Submissions – Poetry and Writing
Please be very careful when it comes to simultaneous submissions. If you're fairly certain your work will be published elsewhere, you might wish to hold off before submitting it to Raving Dove. We piece our editions together very carefully and a last-minute retraction is like pulling a thread out of a quilt. That having been said, please do send simultaneous submissions, but let us know immediately if your work is no longer available. Write "retraction" in the subject line of your e-mail. Many thanks for your understanding.
The following must be included with your submission:
*Full name, general location, and brief byline (bio) of 100 words or less written in third person. Please submit this information regardless of previous publication at this site.
*Submission genre, i.e., fiction, nonfiction, poetry, etc., in the e-mail subject line. We regret that due to the current prevalence of spam, your e-mail will automatically be deleted if the genre does not appear in the subject line. Please make sure your work ties in with one of the themes of this journal: anti-war, anti-violence, peace, or human rights.
*Submission, with title, in the body of the e-mail or by Word attachment.
Art and photography may be reduced in size to better fit the format of this literary journal.
Nonfiction and fiction may be edited—for spelling, punctuation, and grammar, only.

Honorarium (Payment)
At present, our honorarium for each submission published is $10. Because of the international nature of this journal, payment is e-mailed using PayPal, which offers payment in 16 major currencies. There is no fee. Payments are made within 14 days of publication.
We realize this honorarium is modest. Raving Dove also offers a chance to present a bio with Web links, plus the opportunity to make a statement.
Reading Period/Notification of Submission Status
Work is reviewed throughout the year.
Notification of submission status will be sent before the next edition. This could take up to four months.
Publication Dates
Three times each year, in February, June, and October.
